It was a beautiful morning to have brunch. Especially when it was still considered winter. The sun was shining, the sky was fairly clear, and the morning air was crisp as you would expect from our lovely Western Australia.
Toast is in line with the rest of the upcoming places in the East Perth scene… conveniently located next to The Royal on the Waterfront, there is always the opportunity to steal a glass of wine or a pint of beer after the big breakfast!
Being amazed at their new borrowed DSLR, we took a while contemplating our order:
- Full Breakfast ($18.90)
- Eggs Norwegian ($16.90)
- Open Rye Sandwich with Smoked Salmon, Salsa, Avocado, Capers, Poached Egg ($15.90)
- Watermelon Juice
- Orange & Carrot Juice
- Sunrise/Cowboy (cannot for the life of me remember which one, yet again!)
The full breakfast came out looking fresh, but it was a tad disappointing in a way because it looked a little empty in spots. Probably the size of the plate. :) D.P ordered this breakfast that morning, and she said it was average – what you would expect out of a big breakfast, really. :)
The eggs norwegian came out looking looking rather enticing with the bright coloured hollandaise sauce, and the well toasted muffins. :) The wedge of lemon served on the plate was such a lovely twist to the usual Eggs Norwegian that we’d see around town. I didn’t try this dish, but it was well cleaned up by S.K. for sure!!
I had the open rye sandwich, and it was absolutely LOVELY. I loved the variation to the dish of eggs norwegian, by omitting the hollandaise, and adding the avocado, with the salsa, and the most beautiful vegetable on earth to me…. ROCKET! Woo hoo. It was appetising, but I would have loved to have 2 eggs instead of one. But that would have probably made it unhealthy. Hee.
The juices were what you would expect of freshly squeezed juices… the special concoction (cowboy/sunrise) was quite yummilicious! :)
After that, we were still a little bit hungry and we wanted a nice little coffee, so I went to get us:
- Hot chocolate
- Another Juice
We were not that impressed with the brownie because we started comparing this brownie to the brownie we had at West End Deli last year, which was probably one of the best brownies we have tasted!! :)
The wait staff were friendly, and attentive. They have a rather interesting order-taking structure at the counter when it gets busy, which I found very effective. You make your drinks order with the barrister, and then you make mains orders with the person at the cash register. The coffee orders are then translated from the barrister to the counter person.
The other lovely thing about this place, which we hadn’t noticed before is the specials board they have inside. They have interesting things to try, and I will definitely be heading in there for a peek the next time I head to have myself some Toast!
