Entertainment Book 10/11: 25% off Total Bill (up to $30 value)

It was a lovely night, and my parents wanted to give me a treat for some reason I now cannot remember… and so off we went to the Entertainment Book to find a place we haven’t been to, and after glancing through several menus online, I found Pagoda best suited for our tastes.

So off we went, and upon entering the place, there was this sense of being in a palace because everything was decorated so beautifully.

We were a bit confused when we arrived as to where the main entrance is because you could very well enter the Broadwater Hotel and through to the restaurant, or there was another door that allowed us to enter the restaurant straight. Took a while before we got noticed by a waitress, but that’s alright. :)

We deliberated on the menu for quite a long time before finally deciding:

  • Grilled Breast of Chicken (served with garlic cream sauce)
  • Scotch Fillet Steak (with mushroom jus)
  • Crisp Skin Barramundi Fillet
  • Side of Chips
  • Side of Steamed Vegetables
  • Side of Garlic Bread

It sounds like a lot, but because the mains don’t come with any sides (one of the downsides to this place I reckon), we had to order some sides to substantiate our meal!

The garlic bread came out in a perfect serve for us three. Each one had one to devour.

I wouldn’t say the garlic bread stood out amongst the others I have tried, but this was definitely one of the better ones around. There was sufficient garlic flavour (always a plus! After all, it is garlic bread).

The sides of chips and vegetables were really quite average, particularly the chips… that came out a tad too oily even for my liking. And because they didn’t drain the oil off properly, it ended up rather soggy. A bit too much salt too.

The vegetables on the other hand was average because, it was just simple vegetables. I should have expected that, but I reckon they could have thrown in a variety or two to make it more creative. :)

Where are the mains?

The barramundi looks plain and simple, but it was actually rather pleasant after squeezing the lemon and eating it with the cream sauce that was beautifully laid on the side. I would not have guessed the taste if I hadn’t actually poked my fork into Dad’s plate. :)

The grilled chicken breast was probably the least impressive main of the three we ordered, but it was still decent. The breast didn’t come out too dry (in fact you can tell from the photo too!)… but I would have liked a bit more sauce. No hassle – I know what to do next time!! *pretty please may I have more sauce?*

The steak was definitely the highlight for us this evening (except for Dad who never seems to eat red meat). Mom has the fussiest (and I mean fussiest!) taste in steak (and her mushroom sauce), but this one, she was in absolute praise for. And when I had a bite myself, I could tell why. The steak was done beautifully, and the sauce was O.M.G. Absolutely delightful.

By the time we ended mains and sides, we were all too full for desserts (typical of us the Tan family).

Service was average. The waitresses were generally good and efficient, but lacked a bit of the friendly factor. Would have loved it more if they smiled a bit more. Life’s too short to keep a frown on the face! :)

Would love to head back there sometime.
