Due for a catch up before her big day, I arranged for a brekkie at Love Thy Neighbour after seeing the rave reviews it had on Urbanspoon. It looked funky and pleasant for a morning catch up.
I personally didn’t have too much difficulty finding the place because I roughly knew where it resided from descriptions I found on the web, but to a person who doesn’t really travel to Northbridge much, it may become a challenge. The easiest way I would say to get there would be via the Wilson Carpark along Roe Street. Entering it, walking towards the arcade on the left would help you find it with relative ease.
Whilst waiting for MJ and SC to arrive, I found myself absorbing the cafe, and the funky do, with the funky waitresses too. The menu was simple, and it’s a refreshing change.
I ordered a skinny flat white to start off. SC came not too long after, to which she ordered a coffee too. Wasn’t too long before MJ joined us.
We ordered the following for brekkie:
- Two cups of freshly squeezed juice (pear + pineapple, apple + carrot + ginger) – $4 each
- Bacon and Egg on english muffin – $7.50
- Wild mushrooms, herbs, fried egg, rye toast – $16.50
The juices came out quickly as they were all pre-prepared, but they were indeed freshly squeezed, and the combination I had of the apple, carrot and ginger hit the spot nicely. The pear and pineapple that SC had was also a good combination.
The bacon and egg on english muffin was my order, and whilst it may look like a Macca’s variant, it was fresh and really tasty. By the end of it, I wanted to get one more! It was simple, yet tasty – the way it should be.
SC and MJ both had the wild mushrooms. MJ had wanted some scrambled eggs but it was not possible with this cafe, so she stuck to the fried eggs. I found it strange that they did not do scrambled eggs, but I suppose different establishments, different mantra. I forgot to actually ask how the dish was, but it certainly looked tasty, with all kinds of different mushrooms cooked (as opposed to just having the field button mushrooms).
The coffees at Love Thy Neighbour were good, and the service lovely. They were friendly to the tee, and was really attentive with water levels, without being in your face – definitely a plus! I certainly wouldn’t mind heading back for a simple, tasty and chillaxing brekkie! They certainly did show some lovin’.
