D’Nyonya Penang, Perth

I was looking through Urbanspoon to get some ideas for lunch and was very surprised to find a D’Nyonya Penang in the city, and on Hay Street near Seizan Japanese! I must have walked past a dozen times or so never realising it was there, as my friend told me it has been opened for awhile now! The Vic Park branch is a restaurant that I visit quite often so I was very happy there is one in Perth too, near where I work :)

The menu is the same as the one in Vic Park. I like how they have so many different variety of drinks. Their Teh Tarik is especially good! I normally order the Fried Kway Teow when I visit the Vic Park branch (it is very good!), but decided to get the Special Chicken Nasi Lemak ($11) this time round. My friend had the Mee Goreng ($10.50) and we both ordered the cold Three Colour Tea ($3.50).

Special Chicken Nasi Lemak

The Nasi Lemak is a traditional Malaysian dish with rice cooked in coconut milk, hard boiled egg, fried anchovies, peanuts and sambal. This dish was served with Curry Chicken (it could be replaced with fried chicken, fish, etc). It tasted very authentic and the sambal was very nice, slightly sweet and not too spicy. It was homemade!

Mee Goreng

I had a taste of my friend’s Mee Goreng (Malay style fried yellow noodle with vegetables and seafood) and it had the ‘wok’ taste to it. Yummy! I had to refrain myself from taking another mouthful…hehe

Three Colour Tea

The Three Colour Tea is made of red tea, evaporated milk and palm sugar. It was very sweet! I should have ordered my usual Teh Tarik! Oh wells, it was a good try and looked lovely. I was enticed by the look of the drink in the picture menu!

I will definitely be back again – great place for a quick, simple and tasty meal!
