I had started working in Balcatta recently and was on the hunt for good cafes or restaurants for lunch around the area. Having exhausted the few restaurants in Balcatta, my colleague suggested Dimattina Coffee in Osborne Park as a good alternative – “great coffee but simple lunch” was his comment. That was sufficient to get us there.
Dimattina Coffee is hidden in a nestle of offices / warehouses, an unassuming location for the passerby. We walked in and was greeted with a warm ambiance and a nice aroma. Looking around I saw a range of coffee beans and equipment for sale. Half retail, half cafe – nice!
The food selection on offer was indeed really simple, there were simple sandwiches, bagels, baguettes and an array of sweets – there seemed to be more cakes/slices available than the savories. We ordered the following:
- Iced Coffees – great coffee, the flavor stood out!
- Ham & Cheese Sandwich
- Pumpking & Cumin Soup
- Pavlova Passionfruit Cheesecake – this was a good find, the cheescake was not overly sweet and I loved the sweet and sourly taste from the passoinfruit.
It was indeed a simple but nice lunch. The staff behind the counter was very friendly. I would be back to try a Long Macchiato in the near future!
PS: A bit of snooping on Google revealed that Dimattina Coffee started in 1998 but the family has been roasting coffee since 1958. Great history! For a bit of a read, click on the link below:
