For some odd reason, I had associated the cartoon Hello Kitty to Miss Kitty’s Saloon when I first heard of the restaurant, imagining all things pink and cutesy. The actual place is a far cry from my imagination! It was actually a restaurant serving American and Canadian cuisine with dishes such as buffalo wings, doughnuts, poutine etc. I couldn’t wait to try it!
I like the casual feel of the restaurant, the decor seemed mismatched (quirky and vintage features) but befitting! The restaurant was still full when we arrived for a late lunch.
Drinks were the usual Long Mac ($4.50) and a freshly juiced Apple Juice ($4). Hehe boring drink choices but old habits die hard!
Entrees were a Bloody Mary Oysters ($16) and Buffalo Wings ($15.80). The Bloody Mary Oysters came in fours, I thought the oysters were quite small and the sauce was a bit bland. Didn’t like it too much. The Buffalo Wings on the other hand were delicious! Beautifully fried whilst retaining the moisture inside. The blue cheese and yogurt mixture tasted great too, not overpowering (I dislike eating blue cheese normally but this was a great dip!). The only thing that would have made the dish better was if they had included more carrot and celery sticks. It would help to disperse the spiciness in the wings!
For mains, we had:
- Chorizo & Slow Cooked Eggs ($17)
- Chicken & Waffles ($19)
- Shaved Fennel & Citrus Salad ($9)
The Chorizo & Slow Cooked Eggs came with bread and deep fried sweet potato hashes on top of a green sauce. Not sure what the sauce was but it rounded up the dish nicely and brought a nice flavor to the eggs! The egg yolks came out running which I loved. Great dish!
Chicken & Waffles! This was the highlight of my lunch :) I started having a weird obsession with this dish after not being to eat this when I was in Vegas last year due to a bad sore throat inflammation. I was so happy when I found this at the Merrywell, and now another option at Miss Kitty’s Saloon! It’s the combination of the fried chicken’s saltiness and the sweetness of the waffles that gets me going. This version has a dollop of cream on the side with a sweet chilli dip and a refreshing side salad. Yummo!
I ordered the Shaved Fennel & Citrus Salad so that I can feel healthier psychologically and physically after all the deep fried food I had for Entrees and Mains. It was light and refreshing, with olives, chickpeas and fresh herbs. The orange slices add a nice touch to this dish!
Even though we were quite full after this, we could not go without ordering some desserts! There were only two on offer in the Sweet section – the Sarah Pecan Butter Tart ($9) and Glass of Banoffee Pie ($9). Yes to both please!
The Pecan Butter Tart to my relief was quite small. It was topped with a scoop of maple ice cream and sat on generous amount of maple syrup. Crust was rich and flaky. I love it!
The Glass of Banoffee Pie looked so cutesy! It was a deconstructed version with layers of cream, chocolate sand, banana and a bright yellow cream topped with 100s and 1000s. I wish the dessert tasted as nice as it looked but I was disappointed. The banana was slightly raw and the layers didn’t seem to go well together – I also wish I could substitute the glass with a crusty base!
Overall, dining at Miss Kitty’s Saloon was a great experience and I love the different variety of food on offer here. Oh how I love the Chicken and Waffles! The service was top notch too. Friendly staff and very helpful! Will definitely be back!
