Burgermeister is located on Hampden Road in Nedlands, where the ‘cheap’ chicken rice cafe used to be back in the good ol’ uni days, about a decade ago. This place came highly recommended by a colleague so we made our way there one afternoon for lunch. We found a group of colleagues from another project already there when we arrived, enforcing the popularity of this joint, well maybe within our own company. The word of mouth is quite a powerful advertising tool! It had quite a vintage feel about the place, with old schoolroom chairs and tables.
There were a number of burger selections available in the menu, one can choose from either a beef, chicken or veggie filling with various toppings and sauces. There is also a hotdogs section which is equally weighted with the burgers. What to choose?! I ended up having the Beef, Bacon & Mushroom ($17.50) consisting of beef, bacon, sauteed mushrooms, rocket, cheddar cheese, mayo and BBQ sauce. Couldn’t get past the mushroom and the mayo/BBQ sauce combination! Sucker for this!
The burger was humongous! I had trouble finishing it off and gave about 1/3 of it away. Not that it was not nice, it was just too filling! The beef was flat grilled and was juicy and tender. Loved the big pieces of mushrooms embedded inside the burger. Awesome combination!
The others ordered the Chilli Beef ($12) with beef, cheddar, hot green chilli jam & mayo with a side of fries…
and the Beef the Lot ($17.50) with beef, rocket, tomato, cheddar, bacon, egg, German pickles, caramelised onions, tomato relish & mayo. This looked delicious!
One had to be different and ordered the Meister Hotdog ($12) with sour cream, cheese, bacon, pickles, caramelised onion & German ketchup. I must agree that this looked awesome too! Different is good sometimes :)
A burger lunch will never be complete without a side of Fries! A bowl with 2 dipping sauces will set you back $9 – a bit on the dear side but necessary to satisfy our cravings! It wasn’t too bad sharing between our group.
A great thing about the menu is the numerous items you can add to the burger or hotdog for a price. Items such as brie, avocado, bacon, egg, beetroot, goat’s cheese, even pineapple, and the list goes on and on. Will be back if I crave a burger or hotdog!
